Environments
Aerugite is a rare secondary mineral in hydrothermal
nickel-arsenic-uranium ore deposits.
Associated minerals
include bismuth, bunsenite and
xanthiosite
(Mindat).
Localities
At the type locality, Johanngeorgenstadt, Erzgebirgskreis, Saxony, Germany, aerugite was found in an oxidised
vein in a
nickel-arsenic deposit, associated
with
bismuth, bunsenite and
xanthiosite
(HOM).
Paganoite also occurs here, as isolated orange-brown to deep-golden-brown
crystals and crystal aggregates
that are always intimately associated with aerugite
(EJM 13.1.167–175).
Petewilliamsite is another mineral associated with aerugite at
this locality, where it forms dark violet-red to dark brownish red aggregates of millimetric size
(AM 90.273).
