Hydrothermal environments

Cupropavonite occurs in zoned mesothermal base metal and precious metal veins. Associated minerals include pavonite, gustavite, cuprobismutite and berryite (HOM).

Localities

The type locality is the Alaska Mine, Poughkeepsie Gulch, San Juan County, Colorado, USA. A sample from here contained crystals of pavonite with exsolved cupropavonite, associated with interstitial gustavite (AM 65.206).
