Kieserite occurs typically in marine salt deposits, and rarely as a volcanic sublimate or efflorescence. Associated minerals include halite, carnallite, polyhalite, anhydrite, boracite, sulfoborite, leonite, epsomite and celestine (HOM)

Localities

At the type locality, Stassfurt, Stassfurt Potash deposit, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, kieserite occurs in a salt deposit of oceanic origin, associated with halite (Mindat).
