Basaltic cavities

Mazzite-(Mg), formerly mazzite, occurs in cavities in porphyritic olivine basalt, associated with phillipsite, offretite, chabazite, calcite and siderite (HOM ). It is of hydrothermal origin.

Localities

At the type locality, Mont Semiol, Châtelneuf, Montbrison, Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, Mazzite-(Mg) occurs as bundles of needles up to 1.5 mm long but only 20 microns across, in olivine basalt. Associated minerals include phillipsite, offretite, chabazite, calcite and siderite (AM 60.340).
