Scenicite is a new mineral, approved in 2021 and to date (June 2023) reported only from the type localities.

Localities

There are two co-type localities, the Green Lizard mine, Red Canyon Mining District, and the Scenic mine, Fry Mesa, White Canyon Mining District, both in San Juan county, Utah, USA. Scenicite was found in the Green Lizard, Giveaway–Simplot, Markey and Scenic mines, in the White Canyon district, where it occurs as a secondary phase on granular quartz matrix in association with various combinations of deliensite, gypsum, natrozippeite, rietveldite and shumwayite. Scenicite crystals are transparent, light green-yellow, poorly formed blades or prisms, up to 0.1 mm in length (MM 86.5.743-748).
