Trabzonite is a product of retrograde alteration, in skarn produced by intrusion of granite into sediments (HOM, Dana).

Localities

At the type locality, Güneyce-Ikizdere, Rize Province, Turkey, trabzonite occurs as a retrograde mineral in a skarn containing spurrite, rustumite, calcite, vesuvianite, hillebrandite, defernite, tobermorite, killalaite, garnet, perovskite and molybdenite (AM 73.1497).
