At the type locality, the Verkhnee Espe Massif, Akzhaylyautas Mountains, Tarbagatai Range, East Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, bastnäsite-(Y) occurs as a rare secondary mineral in a microcline-quartz pegmatite vein, associated with fluorite, microcline, hematite and quartz (HOM).
