To date (August 2023) danbaite has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

The type locality is the Yangliuping Cu-Ni-PGE deposit, Yangliuping Cu-Ni-PGE ore field, Danba county, Garzê Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, China (AES). The deposit is a platinum bearing copper-nickel deposit in a highly altered ultramafic intrusion. Danbaite occurs as botryoidal and spherulitic aggregates to 0.2 mm and as rims around chromium, associated with pyrrhotite, pentlandite, chalcopyrite, violarite, cubanite, bornite, sphalerite, galena, linnaeite and magnetite, with minor testibiopalladite PdTe(Sb,Te) (not yet approved), sudburyite, sperrylite, omeiite, gold and electrum (AM 69.566).
