Hydrothermal environments

Although schlossmacherite was approved in 1979, to date (February 2024) it has been reported only from the type locality.

Localities

At the type locality, the Emma Luisa mine, Guanaco, Taltal, Antofagasta Province, Antofagasta, Chile, schlossmacherite occurs as polycrystalline aggregates and crusts. It is a rare secondary mineral in the oxidised zone of a copper-bearing gold deposit. Associated minerals include ceruleite, chenevixite, olivenite, pharmacoalumite, mansfieldite, baryte, quartz and goethite (Mindat, HOM).
