Athenite has been found in concentrates from gold washings, associated with arsenopalladinite and hematite (Mindat, HOM).

Localities

At the Type Locality:ⓘ Itabira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, atheneite was found as a few grains in residual concentrates from gold washings; intergrowths with arsenopalladinite occur, and hematite inclusions are also present (AM 59.1330-1332). Other associated minerals include palladseite and isomertieite (HOM).
