Filipstadite occurs in metamorphosed iron-manganese orebodies (HOM).

Localities

At the type locality, Långban, Filipstad, Värmland, Sweden, filipstadite is known from only one specimen, which is also the holotype specimen for ingersonite. It was found on the dumps of the mine as euhedral crystals up to 200 microns across, occurring singly and in aggregates, and intimately associated with jacobsite, ingersonite and calcite. Other associated minerals are antimony and a magnesium silicate, probably clinohumite (AM 73.413-419).

At the Jacobsberg mine, Nordmark, Filipstad, Varmland, Sweden, filipstadite is associated with hausmannite, forsterite, phlogopite, calcite, copper, hedyphane and svabite (HOM).
