At the type locality, the Miessijoki River, Enontekiö, Lapland, Finland, törnroosite was discovered in a heavy-mineral concentrate from the river. The associated minerals include sperrylite, a platinumiron alloy, cooperite, braggite, a native osmiumiridiumruthenium alloy, irarsite, laurite, isomertieite, mertieite, native platinum, a native goldsilver alloy, atokite, a platinum - copper alloy, a copperplatinumpalladium alloy, a copperpalladiumplatinumgold alloy, and a palladium - gold alloy, along with magnetite, ilmenite, chromite, hematite, columbitetantalite, tapiolite, garnet, monazite, zircon, pyrite, rutile, uraninitethorianite, galena, and a mineral of the wolframite series (CM 49.6.1643-1651).
